Since January 2006, thirteen varieties of apples have been produced in the South Tyrol – Südtirol apple cultivation zones that have been awarded the “South Tyrolean Apple PGI” mark. Protected Geographical Indication certifies the relationship between the quality of the product and its origin. The “South Tyrolean Apple PGI” denomination is recognised at European level and safeguards against imitations and the non-compliant use of the brand. Retailers and consumers can rest assured: when they see the “South Tyrolean Apple” brand, the packaging really does contain apples produced in South Tyrol – Südtirol.
The registered trademark “Südtiroler Apfel g.g.A. – Mela Alto Adige IGP” is printed on all packages together with the EU brand. The PGI logo also appears in all Marlene® advertisements: clear information to protect the consumer.
